If you have received this don’t panic. I have received such an email and the password that was sent I used for an account over 12 years ago. Yours maybe more recent.
So, what do I do?
- Back Up, Back Up. If you have not already done so back up your data to a Cloud service, external hard drive or both.
- Make sure all your software is up to date especially your antivirus software. Also, more is not best. Use one anti-virus program, more than one can cause problems.
- If you think you have been hacked. Go to I Have Been Pwnedd.com/
This site will let you know if you have an account that has been compromised. - Change up your passwords regularly and use different strong passwords for each account. You may also want to consider using a Password Manager.
- If you think you have been hacked have your system checked out by a computer professional.
- Don’t fall for phishing. These can be very well done and look like they are coming from a company you do business with. If in doubt call the sender of the email. The bank does not need your password they already have it.
Getting your system, email accounts and online accounts hacked can be very frustrating and it can get very expensive.
Take the time to make sure they are secure, you won’t regret it.
